Abstract

This report is a summary of the data acquisition and field analysis for themicroseismic monitoring of production stimulation fracturing in the Cotton Valleyformation of a gas well located in the Union Pacific Resources Company (UPRC)Carthage gas field in east Texas. This effort was consortium of industry andacademic representatives led by Union Pacific Resources Company. ARCOExploration & Production Technology (AEPT) provided expertise in themonitoring process along with data acquisition hardware and software as well asevent detection, location, and visualization software. The basic field setup consisted of the production well being stimulated and twomonitoring arrays located in wells situated along the anticipated fracture growthpath. Each monitor array consisted of 48 levels of 3-component geophone podsattached to production tubing and cemented into the wells. These wells were tobe completed as production units after the completion of the experiment. The following is a detailed discussion of the setup and configuration of each ofthe components of this process, a description of the data being provided to theconsortium members, and a discussion of the location and display of a subset ofthe detected events.
