Abstract

The review attempts to synthesize methods and results of recent studies on the source mechanism of seismic events induced by mining and relevant microearthquakes of volcanic and tectonic origin. The following topics are discussed: principal types of mine tremors, double-couple and non-double-couple focal mechanisms, seismic moment tensor, seismic source modeling, seismic spectra and source parameters, scaling relations, and attenuation and scattering affects. Special attention is paid to practical aspects of mine-induced seismicity studies, adapted from relevant studies of natural seismicity.
